Choosing a Publication

  • Consider the Aesthetic (the style and taste of the magazine, i.e. is it formal? humorous? etc.)

  • Consider the Genres Accepted (some publications on accept fiction, for example)

  • Consider Logistics/Guidelines (the details of how the publication would like your submission). See the Terms to Know page to explain some of the terms below you may not know
    • Does the magazine accept simultaneous submissions? Does it accept online submissions or just hard-copy submissions? Is your piece too long, according to the guidelines? Does the magazine require a reading fee? Does that magazine only appear online? Does the publication have any specific or curious requests? Etc.

  • Check the Deadlines
